We are inviting people with an interest in the future of our community flood action in Selly Park South to a meeting to be held at Christ Church on 2nd July at 7.30pm. It will discuss the flood risks in our area, review the activities of the Flood Action Group and agree how to take matters forward.
After the river flooding in 2008, a community flood group was created by and led by John Clayton. It created an action plan to:
Responded to floods by helping residents protect their properties and liaising with the authorities to get sandbags delivered.
Create a store of flood defence equipment at St Andrews Healthcare for deployment in the neighbourhood
Working in partnership with the authorities and agencies that manage flood risk to reduce the risk of flooding - notably by successfully campaigning for the building of the Selly Park South Flood Risk Management Scheme.
John is stepping down from leading the group because of health issues and has suggested that it would be an opportunity to look at the future of the group. When it was created, the biggest risk was from the river flooding which has been greatly reduced by Selly Park South Flood Risk Management Scheme. However, the threat of surface water flooding from short term excessive rainfall remains in some locations. Whilst on a smaller scale, it is more difficult to deal with because of its unpredictability and sudden onset and the group’s activities and action plan need to reflect this.
We are asking anyone with an interest in flooding in our area to came along and contribute.

I think that the statistical techniques used and the great thoroughness in conducting and analysing the survey/opinion poll have been excellent. Many thanks to the officers and volunteers of the Forum for all of their thought, time and effort!
