Agenda

  1. Welcome and apologies

  2. Q&A with Collette Campbell, Acting Strategic Lead from the Council's Exempt Accommodation team and Deborah Moseley from the Council's Private Rented Service team who also deal with HMOs. Our local police will also be there.

    1. We aim to cover

      1. The difference between EA and HMOs

      2. The Private Rented Service and what it does.

      3. The Supported Housing Improvement Programme for EA (see details here)

        • We want to understand how can residents be made more aware what could be reported, what the process is for dealing with issues, what outcomes they can realistically expect, how the outcomes are monitored and what they should do if they are unhappy with the outcome.

    2. Exempt accommodation is

      1. Social housing supporting vulnerable people (find out more here)

      2. 45+ exempt households in the Forum area

      3. Some residents aren’t being supported

      4. Some residents cause issues (ASB, vandalism, threatening behaviour, begging)

    3. HMOs are other multiple occupancy households e.g. student accommodation

    4. We are trying to work with the Council to deal with any issues caused by these properties. If you live in or by one and have issues, please support so we can help you.

    5. As a reminder please report issues to prs@birmingham.gov.uk and if necessary to the police either online, or call 101 (999 in an emergency), or via https://crimestoppers-uk.org.

  3. AGM

    1. Review of the Forum's activities over the last year (report from the Chair and open discussion).

    2. We will need to agree the priorities for next year. The committee has a limited capacity, and we need the input from members to decide them and what is achievable. We want to start the conversation today and will follow up online and at the next Open Meeting. The committee has discussed what we think we should be doing and have proposed the following:

      1. Working with the authorities to carry on trying to fix the problems such as traffic, exempt accommodation, traffic and flooding we have been working on over the last year. We would like to tackle more but resources mean we cannot unless more members become actively involved.

      2. Holding community events. We didn't manage to have one this year and we need to decide what to do next year. The big events are proving difficult to arrange with available resources so we may focus on supporting smaller, resident led events. If you have any proposals, bring them along.

      3. Fund raising. The Council has frozen our grant due to the financial issues. We need to generate ideas how to generate income.

    3. Finance report

    4. Elect and new committee.
